Ganga Spatyka Warta

Where Two Rivers Dance — A Revolutionary Confluence

“Two rivers, two civilisations, one living conversation.”

What happens when the sacred Ganga meets the spirited Warta? When Indian classical dance encounters Polish folk song? The answer is GANGA SPOTYKA WARTA — a pioneering Bharatanatyam performance that redefines what cross-cultural artistry can mean.

Created by Apeksha Niranjan in collaboration with Odmieńciese Kapela, this is the first time traditional songs from Poland’s Lublin region — ancient melodies never before interpreted through gesture and emotion — have been brought to life through Bharatanatyam’s expressive vocabulary of mudras and abhinaya. In traditional Polish folk dance, performance remains abstract and celebratory; the dance never tells the story within the song. Apeksha changes everything.

Through her choreography, these beloved songs are given their first-ever narrative dimension. Audiences don’t just hear the music — they see it, feel it, and understand the stories of harvest celebrations, rural longing, family bonds, and the deep connection between the Polish people and their land. Two art forms meet not to compete, but to illuminate each other.

The Songs of Lublin

At the heart of the performance are traditional songs from Poland’s Lublin region — an area rich in folk heritage and cultural memory. These melodies carry the soul of rural Poland, passed down through centuries as windows into another way of life. Through Bharatanatyam, their hidden narratives are finally, visually, revealed.
